Walking in Shropshire
Park in the car park of the Crown Pub. Cross over High Street and turn right. Take the first left along Cross Road. Walk on the pavement on the right side of the road. At the mini island go straight on. At Elm Road turn right. Keep walking. Once you have crossed over Talbot Road take the next turn left, Green Lane.
You come across, on your right, an old windmill which has been converted into a house. Further on around 200 yards you come to a stile on your right. Go over the stile into a field and turn left walking along the left field boundary. At the corner of the field turn right. Just before the next corner, go over the stile into another field. Keep to the right hand boundary. Then go over a stile into a third field. There is string to prevent horses getting close to the barbed wire. Bob under the string. Keep to the right with a wire fence on your right. At the corner of the wire look towards the main road and you will see a stile. Walk over the field, diagonally, to the stile. Go over the stile, turn right, then turn right into a lane (signposted cricket and tennis club).
Pass the kennels on the right. You may even see the dogs. Walk down the lane and turn right at the end. Keep on the lane until you pass a house on your left called ‘Bowling Green House’. Immediately after the house, go over the stile on your right. You will see the windmill in the distance, walk in the direction of the windmill. As you get closer to the windmill you will see a white/beige house, it is the house you need to aim for. There is a stile to the left of the house. Go over the stile. Follow the path and lane until you reach the windmill house. At the windmill house turn left and retrace your steps to the Crown Pub.
The pub is traditional, warm and friendly. The wine was Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc, just £3.40 for a 1.75cl glass. Very nice. Music good too!
Lyn says: This walk is an easy afternoon stroll suitable for all the family and can be changed to allow all road walking if it is very muddy or you have a push chair. Rather than take the stile on the right on Green Lane carry on up the lane to the main road, turn right and then take Kennel Lane to join up with the walk identified.
Enjoy these wonderful walks and take care
